I think I should edit TV commercials. I don't have a degree or anything like that but clearly the people who do edit them suck at their jobs. I don't watch many commercials. Like most people I sit with the TV remote in my hand and when commercials come on I either fast forward through them (thank you DVR) or flip to something else that isn't a commercial.
In the instance when I am forced to watch commercials I go into my commercial zone. This is the same kind of thing as a driving zone. You know, when you are driving and all of a sudden you realize you have gone 15 miles and have no idea how you did it and no recollection of anything that went on in those 15 miles. You usually break out of this zone when someone around you does something stupid and you are forced to react. Well I do this with commercials and I break out of it when something, usually a minor detail, is screwed up in the commercial. This then bothers me every time the commercial comes on and breaks me out of my commercial zone. I then feel the need to let everyone around me know about the screw up and ruin the commercial zone for them. Hey, if I'm going to be bothered by something you all are going to know it.
Current commercial zone screw ups:
The foxwoods commercial where the people unzip themselves to make a new glamorous person. At the end of the commercial the people are leaving foxwoods and the woman is holding her purse on her shoulder and the camera angle changes and it magically disappears. I hate you foxwoods commercial.
The Kia commercial where the people don't know what side of the car the gas tank is on. Well in one clip the guy gets out and tries to stretch the hose over to the other side of the car. There is a woman in the passenger seat shaking her head looking at him. She is looking through the back window via the rear view mirror yet she is sitting in the passenger seat. I know its plausible she could have moved the mirror but with the way she is sitting its highly unlikely she did that. I hate you Kia commercial.
Visa in infamous for having you swipe your credit cards the incorrect way in almost all their commercials. I hate you Visa commercials.
These are just a few of the many commercial screw ups that plague our commercials today. If you didn’t notice these before take notice now. Be sure when you see a commercial screw up you point it out and ruin the commercial zone for those around you. Then everyone will begin to see the commercial screw ups and maybe we can rid our society of them. Then and only then can go back to my commercial zone and not remember anything about it.
